22 June, 2016: IIIT Iftar Gathering held at Dato’ Wira Dr. Jamil’s residence and was attended by more than 100 IIIT friends and families.

International Institute of Islamic Thought ( IIIT), the office of East and Southeast Asia organized an Iftar gathering on June 22, 2016 ( 17 Ramadan 1437) at the residence of Prof. Dato’ Wira Dr. Jamil Osman, Regional Representative and Director of IIIT East and Southeast Asia. The event was attended by approximately 90 brothers and sisters including Prof. Dr. Torla Hassan, Deputy Rector IIUM, Prof. Dr. Wan Sulaiman, Deputy Rector MEDIU, IIIT senior academic fellows and friends from different local universities and from various countries such as Iran, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Bangladesh, Korea and others.

In his welcoming remark, Dato’ Wira Dr. Jamil Osman appreciated the presence of distinguish guests and friends. He hoped that the event will strengthen the bond of friendship, brotherhood and showed that we are one family.  Prof. Shayaa Othman, a senior academic fellow delivered a talk on Maqasid Shariah in the context of Islamisation of Knowledge where he encouraged everyone to be more creative in finding solutions to the Ummah’s issues and challenges. Prof. Dr. Malik Badri gave a short tazkirah after the Taraweh prayers where he explained three categories of fasting according to Imam Al Ghazali which are 1) Ordinary fasting means abstaining from food, drink and sexual satisfaction, 2) Special fasting means keeping one's ears, eyes, tongue, hands and feet-and all other organs-free from sin and 3) Extra-special fasting means fasting of the heart from unworthy concerns and worldly thoughts, in total disregard of everything but Allah.

The Iftar program ended with joyful and friendliness environment and everyone looked forward for a similar gathering in the near future.
