18 February, 2014: IIIT East Asia Advisory Meeting

Selected scholars who have been involved in Islamisation efforts were invited to be part of IIIT East Asia team as advisors. Among scholars who were invited include:
- Prof. Dr. Hazizan Md. Noon – IIUM
- Prof. Dr. Md. Aslam Haneef – IIUM
- Prof. Dr. Kamar Oniah Kamaruzaman – IIUM
- Dato' Wira Dr. Jamil Osman
- Prof. Dr. Mohd Nor Nawawi – UNISEL
- Dr. Muhammad Nur Manuty – UNISEL
- Prof. Dr. A. Latif Samian – UKM
- Prof. Dr. Zaid Ahmad – UPM
- Prof. Dr. Shaharuddin Badaruddin – UITM
- Dr. Mastura Badzis – IIUM
- Dr. Haslina Ibrahim – IIUM

The advisors discussed and agreed on few major points:

a. Workshops and seminars in Malaysia and in the region will be intensified. Outreaching programs will also focus on minority Muslims (Japan, Korea, China, Vietnam, Thailand, etc) who do not have the luxury of having foreign scholar to visit them. In the context of Indonesia, special attention should also be given to Achenese since they have the potential and are now developing their institutions of higher learning.

b.  IIIT resource persons will give special focus on training post graduate and young lecturers on Islamisation issues. In the context of IIIT scholarship holders in IIUM, selected resource persons will be assigned officially as mentors. These mentors will be responsible for 3-5 students and they will remain together with the students until they graduated.

c.  IIIT East Asia should explore possibility of offering a certificate program on Islamisation of knowledge for young lecturers and general public. So far there are no multidisciplinary courses being offered on Islamisation. There are real demands from lecturers from other universities beside IIUM.
