The International Seminar on Reviving Islamic Values in
Response to Human Crisis was organized by Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD),
Yogyakarta, Indonesia at Inna Garuda Hotel, Yogyakarta on February 22, 2017. The seminar was attended by participants from
Malaysian and Indonesian Universities, private as well as state public
universities.
Universitas Ahmad Dahlan was first established on 18
November, 1960 as Institute for Teacher Training and Education, Muhammadiyah
Yogyakarta as an expansion of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP)
Muhammadiyah Jakarta. It was initially designated to serve as an extension of
Muammadiyah BI course established earlier in 1957, during which the BI course
offered three streams namely Educational science, Civil Law and Economics. On
19, December 1994, IKIP Muhammadiyah was changed into a full-fledged university and became Ahmad Dahlan
University.
Currently UAD has 10 faculties with 30 undergraduate
study programs. For the postgraduate program, UAD has 7 master programs:
Psychology Science Postgraduate, Psychology Profession Postgraduate, Physics
Education Postgraduate, English Education Postgraduate, Pharmacy Postgraduate,
Education Management Postgraduate and Information Technology Postgraduate
Program.
The seminar was officiated by Prof. Dr. Sarbiran, Vice
Rector III of UAD, for International Cooperation. Bro. Muhammad Habib Chirzin was invited to
deliver an Introductory Speech, before the opening, on behalf of International
Institute of Islamic Thought ( IIIT) where he took the opportunity to share
with the audiences the new policy and programs of IIIT on Textbook Writing,
Research, Summer School, Translation and Publication.
The Keynote Speech was delivererd by Prof. Dr. Jasser
Auda (Chairman of Maqasid Institute, London), with the topic on The Need for Ethics
Revolution: Islamic Perspective. Prof. Jasser Auda explored the topics
extensively based on the Maqashid al Shariah.
Two Plenary Sessions were organized in the Conference. The
first plenary speakers include:
1. Prof. Dato Seri Dr. Asiah Abdul Rahim
(Kulliyah of Architecture and Environmental Design, International Islamic University of Malaysia)
Topic: Islamic Values through
the Architectural Perspective.
2. Dr. Ali Abdul Mun’im (Universitas Islam
Indonesia Yogyakarta)
Topic: Human Last Resort:
Qur’anic based Maqasidi Philosophy of Development.
3. Dr. Ahmad. Muhammad. Diponegoro
(Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, Yogyakarta)
Topic: Human Crisis, The
Search for Well Being and Islamic values.
The second panel include ;
1. Prof. Dr. Mat Rofa Ismail (Faculty of
Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia)
Topic: Islamic Values through
Scientific Perspective.
2. Ahmad Arifin bin Sapar, PhD
(University of Malaya)
Topic: Fuzzy Delphi Method for
evaluating the issues and constraints to enhance the student knowledge in Arabic Studies in Malaysia.
Aside from the two plenary sessions, there were three
parallel sessions with the papers presentation of different topics from the different universities.
