5 May, 2015: Visit from Diniyyah Puteri Padang Panjang

A delegation from Diniyah Puteri, Padang Panjang visited IIIT for two days. The delegation consists of 20 final year students with 3 lecturers.  They had the opportunity to engage in discussion on Islamisation with Prof. Dr. Rosnani Hashim and then visited UNISEL to listen to a lecture by Prof. Dr. Shaharuddin Badaruddin.

29 April, 2015: Visit from Universitas Darussalam Gontor

IIIT received a delegation from UNIDA led by Dr. Abdul Hamid Zarkasyi and Dr. Khairul Umam. Among the issues being discussed include a propose workshop on Islamic Economics and Banking in Nov/Dec 2015, propose MOU between UNIDA and IIIT, and propose exchange of scholars and resources. The meeting was also attended by Prof. Dr. Rosnani Hashim.

18 April, 2015: Workshop on Textbook Writing, Universitas Islam Indonesia, Yogyakarta

Prof. Dr. Mat Rofa Ismail of UPM and Prof. Dr. M. Fauzan Noordin of IIUM were invited as resource persons in the Workshop on Textbook Writing organized by Universitas Islam Indonesia, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The Workshop was officiated by the Rector of UII Prof. DR. Ir. Harsoyo; and attended by Deputy Rector of Academic Affairs DR. Ilya Fajar Maharlika; Director of Academics Affairs DR. Arief Rahman, Professors, Lecturers and students of post graduate studies. The Rector also attended the discussion until the end of the program.


05 - 06 May, 2015: Second International Conference on Mental Health

The 2nd  International conference on mental health was organized as a joint collaborative endeavor of the Department of Psychology International Islamic University, Islamabad, Pakistan (IIUI), the chair of Ibni Khaldun, Kulliyyah of IRKHS International Islamic University Malaysia,  International Institute of Islamic Thought USA and International Association of Muslim Psychologists. The Father of Muslim psychology professor Dr. Malik Badri has honored  as the patron in Chief, The Chairman department of psychology IIUI Dr. Muhammad Tahir Khalily as principal Organizer,and Dr. Jamil Osman Regional Director IIIT provided a very kind support.

This august event held on the 5th and 6th May 2015 at Senate Hall International Islamic University Malaysia Kuala Lumpur where the Dean and Deputy Dean Faculty of Kuliah  Revealed knowledge and Human Sciences (IIUM) participated in the inaugural session as guests of honour and Professor Malik Badri the Chief Pattern of the conference and Professor Jamil Osman Regional Director IIIT deliver their keynote speeches.  Dr Muhammad Tahir Khalily (Principal organizer) briefed the participants about the purpose and importance of this scientific endeavour particularly in the context of Islamization of psychology and in his key note speech he urged the psychologists from different countries (including; Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, America, Nigeria, India, Nepal, Sudan, University of Karachi, Women University Lahore, Preston University Islamabad and IIUI) to integrate the current modern psychotherapeutic techniques to the cultural and religious tools and practices in order to make it more effective and applicable.

Professor Malik Badri in his welcome address mentioned the importance of religious practices and values in the amelioration of mental health and appreciated the efforts of psychology Department IIUI for organizing such events. He put emphasis on the Islamization of psychology and mentioned a few examples from the history of psychology. He further asked the psychologists to explore indigenous solutions for the amelioration of mental health issues grounded in Islamic teachings.
The conference comprised of five sessions, of which the first two scientific sessions were conducted on the first day along with Inaugural session while the remaining two scientific sessions along with panel discussion session was conducted on the second day. A total of 35 oral presentations and 10 poster display took place over the two days.

Dr Seema Gul in her keynote speech highlighted the importance of psychometric in line with the cultural and religious perspectives as tools for personality assessment. Professor Rahmatullah Khan, President of International Association for Muslim Psychologists urged for the joint efforts of the Muslim scholars for the promotion of knowledge and research.

Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Zain, Dean, Faculty of Kuliah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences in his inaugural speech appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee and emphasize the organization of such events in future. Professor Jamil Osman of IIIT apprised the participants about the different academic and research activities of IIIT particularly the efforts made in the writing of textbooks on Islamization of knowledge.


At the end , the panel concluded that the Islamization of knowledge in general and particularly of psychology is the need of the hour, and put stress upon the integration of religious and cultural values of modern psychotherapeutic techniques in order to meet the current challenges scientifically and effectively.  The conference Proceeding will be published with the assistance of IIIT and will be edited by reputed scholars. Dr Muhammad Tahir Khalily the principal organizer thanked the participants for their valuable contribution, Professor Malik Badri the Chief Patron and father of the Muslim Psychology and IIIT for their kind support.


22 April, 2015: Visit SEGi University, Kuala Lumpur

IIIT visited SEGi University, Kuala Lumpur to strengthen ties for future collaboration. The IIIT delegation was received by Prof. Muhammad Awang, Vice Chancellor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Firdaus Low, Dean, School of Communication and other top management of the University. Among the issues being discussed include:

i.    Propose short and long-term cooperation between SEGi and IIIT.
ii.   Propose signing of MOU and one-day workshop in August/September.
iii.  Propose exchange of visiting scholars.
iv.  Propose linking of networks in the region.

 

15 April, 2015: Visit and Discussion with Kuliyyah of Information and Comm. Tech. (KICT), IIUM

IIIT paid a courtesy visit to Prof. Dr. Abdul Wahab, Dean of Kuliyyah of Information and Communication Technology (KICT), IIUM to discuss future collaboration. Among the agreement reached include a propose research and textbook writing with the Kuliyyah, propose research and teaching Lab on ICT and Islam and propose publication of books on ICT and Islam.  The meeting was also attended by Prof. Dr. M Fauzan Nordin, a senior professor at the Kuliyyah.


16-19 April, 2015: Visit of Dr. Jamal Ahmed Badi to Hong Kong

Dr. Jamal Ahmed Badi, Professor of Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) was invited by IIIT East and Southeast Asia Office to visit Hong Kong from 16-19 April 2015. During his short stay, Dr. Jamal has conducted two workshops on "Thinking Styles in the Light of the Qur'an" and a public lecture on “Encouragement to Thinking In Islam”. Alhumdulillah, the visit of Professor Dr. Jamal to Hong Kong was very successful.

The workshop in Islamic Kasim Tuet Memorial College(IKTMC) was attended by more than 70 students of Form 5. There were also a few adults, including teachers, who came to the school to attend the workshop. The presentation was interesting and effective judging from the responses of students during the group work session. Most of the students were able follow the presentation and made reasonable
feedback.

The session hosted by the Muslim Students Association of Hong Kong University was well attended by HKU students, non-HKU students, lecturers and researchers from other universities. The total attendance was around 60. There were also a few non-Muslims who attended. The presentation was stimulating and interesting. There were many thought provoking questions raised by the audience and were well answered.

The public lecture in Kowloon Masjid was attended by the Chairman of the Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of HK, Chief Imam of Hong Kong and Chairman of Kowloon Masjid Dawah Committee. There were about 70 who attended. The audience showed great interest in the presentation and were deeply impressed by the creativity of the topic presented. The Question and Answer Session lasted for an hour. The audience are looking forward to learn more about the new research and results on Critical and Creative Thinking conducted by the learnt scholar, Dr. Jamal Badi.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest appreciation to Dr.  Jamal for his contribution in sharing his valuable knowledge and experience with the Muslim community of Hong Kong.

We would like to thank Sr. Zareenah Ho, Principal of Islamic Kasim Tuet Memorial College and her colleagues, Br. Muhammad Hassan Shah and his helpers in Muslim Students’ Association of H.K.U.S.U. and Br. Abdul Matin Farooqi, Chairman of Kowloon Masjid Dawah Committee for organizing the workshop and public lecture.

11-21 August, 2014: Curriculum Reform and Course Outlines Review, IIUM

Intensive workshop on Curriculum Reform and Course Outlines Review was held from 11 to 21 August, 2014. Sixteen subjects/courses were selected for review where the instructors presented both old and new course outlines for discussion. Emeritus Prof. Dr. Abdul Hamid Abu Sulayman participated as the main resource person in all sessions. The date and list of courses are as follows:

  

  



15 April, 2015: Visit from Iranian Sunni Students Association IIUM

A delegation of 25 members from Iranian Sunni Students Association at IIUM visited and had lunch at the IIIT office. Both IIIT and the Association agreed to organize a training program on Islamisation to develop young scholars and to translate of selected books of IIIT into Persian language.


8 April, 2015: Visit to College University Selangor (KUIS) with Sis. Fauziah Fauzan, Director, Diniyah Puteri Padang Panjang

IIIT and Diniyah Puteri Padang Panjang made an official visit to College-University Islam Selangor (KUIS). The delegation was received by Prof. Dato Dr. Ab Halim Tamuri, Rector KUIS and other Top Management officers of the College. Among main items being discussed include a propose cooperation between KUIS, Diniyah Puteri and IIIT in terms twinning program and exchange of resources, propose research and textbook writing project between KUIS and IIIT, and a propose Conference on Strengthening Islamic Higher Education Institution in the Region.
