The International Conference on Islamic Epistemology: The
Reconstruction of Contemporary Islamic Epistemology, and the Workshop on the
Textbook Writing was organized by the
Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. The conference
was attended by 200 participants from UMS and other 18 universities in
Indonesia, the state public and private universities.
The conference was officiated by the Deputy Rector 1 for
Academic Affairs of UMS, Dr. Muhammad Da'i. After the opening remark by the Dean of the
Faculty of Islamic Studies, Dr. Fattah Santosa and the official opening, Dato
Dr. Jamil Osman, delivered very substantial Keynote Speech, on The Reconstruction
of Contemporary Islamic Epistemology in East and Southeast Asia. Dato Jamil
made a comprehensive and substantial keynote speech, which has been highly
appreciated by the leaders of UMS and the participants.
The Plenary Session featured 3 speakers; 1. " The Development of Islamic Epistemology:
An Overview of Sources, Methods, and Purposes" by -Dr. M. Abdul
Fattah Santoso, the Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies, UMS; 2- "The
Development and implementation of Islamic Epistemology: Experience of Indonesian's Universities", by . Habib Chirzin;
and 3-"The Development and implementation of Islamic Epistemology: Experience
of Malaysian's Universities" by bro. Shahran Kasim.
In the afternoon session, there were 3 parallel
presentations of the 26 papers out of 63 papers accepted by the organizer,
Moderated by Dr. Syamsul Hidayat, Maarif Jamuin, M.Si and Dr. Imron Rosyadi.
The last session was the Workshop on Textbook Writing
Based on Islamic Epistemology by Dato Wira Dr. Jamil Osman, Director IIIT East
and South East Asia. The workshop was
attended by the textbook writers from UMS Sutakarta and the paper writers from
18 Universities.
Finally we agreed to form the committee of the 6 textbook
writing, coordinated by Dr. Fattah Santosa. And we distributed the books of The
Qur'anic World View by Dr. Abdul Hamid AbuSulayman to the writers. In the
following day, May 25, 2016, we signed an MOA on the 6 textbook writing, signed
by Dato Jamil Osman and Dr. Fattah Santoso.
