8 April, 2015: Visit to College University Selangor (KUIS) with Sis. Fauziah Fauzan, Director, Diniyah Puteri Padang Panjang

IIIT and Diniyah Puteri Padang Panjang made an official visit to College-University Islam Selangor (KUIS). The delegation was received by Prof. Dato Dr. Ab Halim Tamuri, Rector KUIS and other Top Management officers of the College. Among main items being discussed include a propose cooperation between KUIS, Diniyah Puteri and IIIT in terms twinning program and exchange of resources, propose research and textbook writing project between KUIS and IIIT, and a propose Conference on Strengthening Islamic Higher Education Institution in the Region.

7 April, 2015: Reception Dinner for Prof. Dr. Nur Abdi and Sis. Fauziah Fauzan

IIIT hosted a reception dinner in conjunction with a visit by Prof. Dr. Nur Abdi, Executive Director, Islamic College, Ethiopia and Sis. Fauziah Fauzan, Director, Diniyah Puteri Padang Panjang. Several issues were discussed during the dinner include a propose coordination and sharing expertise in setting up Islamic. College/University in Ethiopia and Padang and propose short-term and long-term research project between all institutions.

2 April, 2015: Visit by a Delegation from Medan

IIIT received a visit by a delegation from Medan led by Prof. Dr. Syahrin Harahap, Former Rector, IAIN Medan and Bapak Irvan Batubara, Head of Investment Agency, Sumatera. Among the issue being discussed include a propose hosting Research and Textbook Writing Workshop in Medan for scholars in Sumatera in August, 2015, and exchange of scholars and resources between IIIT and various universities in Sumatera.

2 April, 2015: MOA Signing between Centre for Islamic Economics IIUM and IIIT

MOA was signed between IIIT and Centre for Islamic Economics, IIUM (CIE) to publish 3 textbooks on Micro, Macro Economics and Islamic Economics within two years. IIIT was represented by Dato’ Wira Dr. Jamil Osman and CIE was represented by Prof. Dr. M. Aslam Hameed, Director CIE. The MOA was witnessed by Prof. Dr. Maliah, Dean of KENMS. Among future programs to be co-organized include series of workshops and discussions and further cooperation with the Kuliyyah to publish 6 textbooks on Finance, Accounting and Business Management.

22 March, 2015 : MOU Signing Ceremony between UNISSULA and IIIT

24-25 March, 2015 : Visit to Fatoni University

In conjunction with the International Islamic Studies Conference, Dato Wira Dr. Jamil Osman and a delegation from IIIT East and SEA paid a courtesy visit to Fatoni University, Pattani, Thailand. The delegation was welcome by the Founder-Rector and senior officers of the University. Various issues were discussed and both institutions agreed to collaborate in writing textbooks, students and academic staff exchange programs. MOU was signed between both institutions which include a broad agreement for cooperation in academic activities especially on textbook writing projects. Further visits and meetings were planned in the near future.

 

25 March, 2015: Special Briefing for Thai Muslim Scholars on Research and Textbook Writing

More than 20 Muslim scholars from various universities in Thailand attended a special briefing on IIIT Research and Textbook which was held on the sideline of the International Conference on Islamic Studies organized by Prince Songkla University. The briefing was conducted by Dato Wira Dr. Jamil Osman on March 25, 2015. The scholars were very excited with the project and look forward to contribute in their own capacities. A follow-up discussion and full-day workshop was tentatively agreed to be organized in Bangkok in the middle of May, 2015.

20 – 21 March, 2015 : Workshop on Research and Textbook Writing Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Indonesia

The workshop in Jakarta was held on March, 20 and then followed by the same workshop Yogyakarta on March 21, 2015. Both workshops were attended by Prof. Dr. Omar H. Kasule, Dato Wira Dr. Jamil Osman and several invited resource persons. Prof. Omar H. Kasule made two major presentations on Islamisation of Knowledge and the Procedure for Textbook Writings. Prof. Kasule also talked briefly on the IIIT Research Grant. Participants were invited to share their inputs and share ideas on how they can contribute in the projects.

The Jakarta Workshop was attended by more than 55 participants coming from various academic institutions from the areas. There were around 20 of them were IIUM alumni. A special discussion were held among IIUM Alumni and the group have was committed to assist and contribute to IIIT efforts and activities in Indonesia.

The Yogyakarta workshop was attended by more than 65 participants, mostly senior scholars from various universities in the areas. The participants were excited with the research and textbook project and were committed to contribute in their areas of expertise.

 

 

28 January to 2 February, 2015 : IIIT East and Southeast Asia Coordination Meeting

IIIT East and Southeast Asia Coordination Meeting was organized from January 28 to February 2, 2015 at Zon on the Park Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Omar H. Kasule and representatives from Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, China, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia. A representative from Bangladesh was also invited as observer. The meeting aimed to coordinate activities and programs in the region for 2015. Representatives also reported their activities in the past years and shared issues of common concerns. 
    

       

 

26-27 September, 2014 : Workshop on Teaching Economics with Islamic Inputs

The Workshop is a second series of workshop to systemize teaching of Economics from Islamic Perspectives. The workshop also aims to develop textbook and teaching material. The workshop was held at Airlangga University, Surabaya and was attended by more than 30 scholars. Among the topics of paper presentation include The Experience of SEA Universities Incorporating Islamic Inputs in the Teaching of Microeconomics followed by group discussions on the assigned concepts. Participants were divided into 8 groups, and each group assigned 2 concepts where they were expected to present their output for discussion in Day 2.   

The workshop was co-organized and co-sponsored by Centre for Islamic Economics – IIUM, Airlangga University, IRTI and IIIT. IIIT was represented by Dato Wira Dr. Jamil Osman and Bro. Habib Chirzin.
